In this training, we will look at how to change the default page margins using a default template. This will walk through the steps to create a template. The simplest way to accomplish this task, especially if you want something other than the default 0.79 inch (2 centimeter) margins. This will involve creating a new default template or use in creating new files.
Change Page Margins Using a Template
Creating a Template
From the main menu, choose Format > Page. On the Page tab, set the margins to 1.00” (or whatever you wish as the default). Click OK.

From the main menu, choose File > Save As. Save the file as a Template, .ott (Writer 2.0+) or .stw (Writer 1.0).
Importing a Template
From the main menu, choose File > Templates > Organize
Double click the folder you wish to import the template. Click the commands button and choose Import Template… Navigate to the location of the template you wish to import.
Select the template file and click Open.
Setting a New Template
From the main menu, choose File > Templates > Organize
Double click the folder which contains the template you wish to make default. Right click the template name under the folder you chose and choose Set As Default Template. Click Close.
Your template is now set as the default template.
Exporting a Template
From the main menu, choose File > Templates > Organize
Double click the folder you wish to export the template. Click the file you wish to export. Click the commands button and choose Export Template… Navigate to the location of the where you wish to export the template and click Save.
